The Bristan Group, has remained open for business during the past few months, operating in line with Government directive to support our customers with the supply of products for essential projects.  Bristan Health & Safety Manager, Paul Jones talks through the operational challenge of COVID-19:

Together we deliver

The priority was to ensure the safety of our key workers.  We had urgent orders to fulfil from the Nightingale hospitals and so needed to adapt our warehouse facility to ensure we continue to deliver, while protecting our work force.

One brilliant team

My driving force is making the business Covid secure to ensure our brilliant team are safe.   so it was important, early on, to communicate to our teams our new safety measures and give them the tools to protect themselves and their colleagues.  So, we began by sourcing kits for every employee that included a thermometer for daily home checks, hand gel, face mask, gloves and a handbook to ensure everyone is fully Covid secure.

We separated our colleagues into smaller groups such as, Inbound, Retail and Outbound departments.  Every team was designated their own entrance, exit and rest area.  Our approach to ensure no two teams mixed to minimise risk of cross contamination has proven extremely effective.

Our large 250,000 square foot facility enabled us to make space for social distancing. Visual markers now feature throughout the warehouse and office spaces as a reminder to all employees.  No two desks now face each other, and all have been configured to ensure people keep two metres apart.

For added protection in our office space we added desk screens to everyone’s dedicated desks.  All rubbish is collected from a specialist cleaning company, where it is safely sorted and recycled.

With no room for human error, every entrance door handle in the business has been adapted to a gel handle. The unique, revolutionary pull door hygiene handle that automatically dispenses sanitising gel onto the users’ hand and the only way to remove it is to rub it into your hands.

As an added precaution, all meeting spaces for external visitors have been fitted with step and pull door operators, screens, hand gel stations and all guests contacts details are logged, just in case.

We create safer washrooms

Being in the bathroom business we had an advantage early on because every washroom already had touchless soap dispensers and Bristan infra-red taps.  So, all we needed to do was implement a one in one out approach.

Every kitchen and is now also equipped with plastic cutlery, paper cups, sachet tea, coffee and sugar and individual milk cartons.
