Assessing the risks
One of the biggest risks when showering is scalding, with water temperatures above 44°C representing an increased risk of serious injury. This risk becomes even more prevalent in environments with a vulnerable population, such as schools, care homes or hospitals, where users may not be able to react as quickly if the water becomes dangerously hot. That’s why a failsafe solution is paramount when there is a duty of care involved in your building specification.
Thermostatically speaking
We’ve incorporated thermostatic water controls across our core shower ranges in all three brands. Thermostatic mixing valves (TMV) are the most effective way to alleviate the risk of scalding anywhere that hot water is delivered. TMVs allow water to be stored and distributed at a high enough temperature to kill harmful legionella bacteria, and reduce it to a safe temperature at the point of use by mixing it with cold water supply. What’s more, TMVs will maintain water temperature even when the incoming water pressures or flow rates change.

Our Bristan brand offers a wide array of thermostatic showers for every type of commercial specification. Its healthcare product range, which has been developed in close collaboration with healthcare managers and specifying professionals, features some of the safest showers on the market. The patented OPAC bar shower is TMV3 approved, offering the highest level of protection for NHS hospitals and care homes. It also has an integral flushing mechanism for easy maintenance, as well as helping to reduce waterborne microbial growth.
Bristan’s experienced specification team recently helped care home builder LNT Construction deliver a long-lasting and safe showering solution.

With all our products specified to WRAS compliancy, you can be confident your specifications are fully compliant with building regulations and by-laws.
In addition, we follow the UK Building Regulations for sanitary fittings and fixtures, including Part G for Hot Water Safety. All our thermostatic mixing valves meet BuildCert regulations, providing both fully certified TMV2 and TMV3 safety levels.
