From 1st January 2021, Brexit is going to impact the rules and regulations of all products and professional specifiers will need to comply with the new UK standard.

As Britain’s leading bathroom and kitchen manufacturer, we’re here to keep life brilliantly simple for our customers.  Jamie Lynch, Product Compliance and Data Manager at Bristan Group, explains what the new regulatory changes will mean for your business. So, you can specify taps and showers for domestic and commercial clients with confidence.

What is the current law?

The current EU law states that certain kitchen and bathroom products need an EU CE safety marking, which falls under the Construction Products Regulation. This marking shows that the manufacturer has checked these products meet EU safety, health or environmental requirements. As a specifier checking that the relevant bathroom products have an EU CE marking is an important step in compliance.

How will the law change?

Post-Brexit, the UK will be required to have its own safety standard. As of 1st January 2021, the UKCA mark will be mandatory across the relevant goods and monitored by UK-recognised approved bodies where required.

It won’t be compulsory to have this new marking immediately; the EU CE mark will remain viable until 1st January 2022.

During this transitional period, it will be the manufacturer’s responsibility to affix the new UKCA marking to the relevant products using a UK-recognised approved body.

The Bristan Group’s Brexit Plan

We’ve been working hard to prepare for Brexit and are ready to adapt to the new regulatory changes. We have identified all the Heritage, Bristan and Cascade products that require the UKCA marking and are currently working with our suppliers and the relevant bodies to begin rolling out the new marking across our products from 2021.

Our customers can have complete confidence that the Bristan Group is working in line with the Brexit rules and regulations.
